MHASC
Formed in 2002, MHASC (Mental Health Alternatives to Solitary Confinement) is a coalition of organizations and concerned New Yorkers, including people who have been incarcerated, family members, and mental health and criminal justice advocates, that successfully advocated for the enactment of the SHU Exclusion Law. In addition to monitoring implementation of the SHU Exclusion Law, MHASC advocates for improving the mental health treatment provided to people in New York State prisons and ending indefinite forensic detention.
